Our adventure on Rapa Nui, the original name for Easter Island, continues. Travelling to Rapa Nui for 15 days involves, of course, beach life and relaxation. However, staying at a remote island is no excuse not to work out. Traveling actually requires a good level of fitness and strength, especially if you carry heavy backpacks around the globe. That’s why we dedicated the afternoon of our day 5 to getting fitter and stronger again at the municipal gym.

Today, I fought my inner couch potato and accompanied Stefano to Hanga Roa’s municipal gym. Rapa Nui offers optimal conditions to exercise. The municipal gym is completely free of charge. And its equipment is even better than some private gyms. In Buenos Aires, Argentina for example, we trained with partly broken machines at a private gym two months ago.
I’ll maybe never become a big fan of gyms. Instead, I’ll probably always prefer outdoor sports. But making my muscles work admittedly makes me feel better prepared to lift all my bags again in two weeks.

Nevertheless, spending time inside the gym never makes me feel satisfied. Therefore, I packed my ebook reader and moved to the beach after my exercises. That’s when I felt my happiness hormones increase. Watching surfers flowing with the waves brought me peace. At the end, there were mixed groups of Rapa Nuis and tourists practicing yoga. They performed in front of the sea, adding to my calm.
