These giant turtoises have roamed the earth for centuries, reminding us to slow down and appreciate the beauty around us. 🐢🌴

On Prison Island, Zanzibar, we had the privilege of meeting these majestic, unhurried creatures. They made me remember that the true measure of a life well-lived isn't in how fast we move, but in the moments we choose to cherish. Whether it's exploring a new destination, connecting with family and friends, or simply appreciating the small joys in life, we need to make every experience count. 💚

Today is Freddy Mercury's birthday! That's what our day in his birth place Stone Town looked like: ⬇️

We discovered the Old Fort, walked through narrow alleys full of colourful shops until the Freddy Mercury House, got bird views from our hotel before strolling through the lively spice, meat and fish market with its tender hall.

Stone Town looked a bit like Oman in Africa because many Tanzanians wear the traditional Omani hats and dresses, and you pass by many Muslim schools and mosques. Before arriving, we had heard a lot about security issues in Stone Town and can confirm that we didn't feel as comfortable at night as in other parts of Zanzibar. But we still think it's exaggerated and you are able to walk at night.

Unfortunately, we found only a limited choice of restaurants, which were all significantly more expensive than others around Zanzibar, but we enjoyed still two fabulous dinners in Stone Town.

It's one of these places that give Zanzibar its right to be called paradise destination. We needed about half an hour by boat to reach this sandbank in front of the private-owned Mnemba Island. It's surrounded by clear water, corals, dolphins and other underwater wonders.

Even though I feel critical about the privatization of Tanzanian islands and coastal parts, I adored this beautiful piece of natural.

When Stefano told me about the frequent flight connections between Rome and Baghdad last year, what first came to my mind was war, devastation and insecurity. But then, we started reading about this country steeped in history. Shortly after, our decision was taken: we'll travel to Iraq in summer! And that was honestly the best choice we could make!

After our night walk the first day, we explored Erbil by day. I really enjoyed seeing women uncovered again, here in Kurdistan. Even though I didn't have to cover up myself before, except in holy places, and was not observed strangely, I felt more freedom and somehow relief again. You can be comfortable in another culture and still feel more comfortable in your own, I guess.
