I recently travelled to Rome and interviewed Stefano Umberto Menini about the impact of satellite technology on travel and culture experience (read the interview here). After some days in the hustle and bustle of Rome, I craved for some peace and escaped to Lago di Bracciano for a day. The towns of Bracciano and Anguillara Sabazia are only a stone’s throw away from the eternal city.

Lago di Bracciano: nataure’s serenity on display
Lago di Bracciano is a picturesque volcanic lake. It’s surrounded by abandon greenery and majestic hills. Charming lakeside villages offer quaint cafes and restaurants with delectable local cuisine.
Bracciano: a town steeped in history

As a first stop, Bracciano made me travel back in time. This medieval town has an imposing castle, the Orsini-Odescalchi Castle, and a Renaissance fortress overlooking the town and lake. The narrow cobblestone streets are lined with charming shops and cozy cafes.

Anguillara Sabazia: a quaint lakeside haven

Next, I continued my day trip in the delightful town of Anguillara Sabazia, located on the lake’s northern shores. After an awakening coffee, I admired the panoramic view of Lago di Bracciano from the town’s medieval center.
You may immerse yourself in the town’s history and traditions by visiting the Museo del Lago. Many trattorias and gelaterias offer regional flavors.

Wonderfully diverse surroundings
Whether you seek relaxation, cultural exploration or natural adventures, this hidden gem near Rome is sure to captivate your senses and leave you with cherished memories.
For example, there’re plenty of water sports activities on the lake’s crystal-clear waters such as windsurfing and kayaking.
Moreover, the Regional Park of Bracciano-Martignano is a protected area offering hiking trails, bike paths and spots for birdwatching. The nearby Martignano Lake is an untouched oasis where you can marvel at the volcanic origins of the area. You may find itineraries and other useul information here.
Honestly, I’m wondering why everyone is crowding the north of Italy…
